Due to Uyuni’s remote location and Bolivia’s overall lack of regulations, Salar de Uyuni tours are not always as hoped. Often it’s a case of “you get what you pay for”, and those looking for the cheapest option can be left with an unreliable, uncomfortable and unsafe tour.

At 10am you will be picked up from your hotel room in a 4WD before starting your magical journey through the rugged landscapes of Salar De Uyuni. Your first stop is at Cementario de Trenes, an antique train graveyard where you can explore and photograph trains dating back to the early 20th century.

Next you will be taken to a salt miner’s workshop in the small village of Colchani where you can learn how salt in the region is extracted, processed and produced.

Continue along the Salt flats you will arrive at Isla de Incahuasi where you’ll be greeted by a spectacular array of cactus. Here a packed lunch is provided and you will be given ample time to explore this otherworldly island. From Isla de Incahuasi you’ll be driven across the endless salt flats (keep an eye out for flamingos and vicunas along the way) to the beautiful town of Tahua; your home for the night.

After checking into your accommodation you are free to explore the local museum and surrounding community. Rounding off the day you’ll retreat to Tayka Hotel for a delicious meal before retiring for the night.

Day 2

Before departing on your second day of adventures, enjoy a freshly made breakfast in the hotel. Your first stop is the Cathedral (a rock formation shaped as a cathedral) followed by the incredible Chiquini caves.

You will then get to explore attractions such as Islas Campanas and the town of Charagua where quinoa is grown. The scenery during this part of the journey is spectacular, providing a great opportunity for professional and amateur photographers alike. After another stretch of driving, you’ll stop for lunch at the Tayka de Pierda before continuing onto the first of the lagunas which really do have to be seen to be believed.

After spending some time at Laguna Cañapa you’ll then be given the chance to explore Laguna Hedionda which is a famous breeding ground for the three species of flamingo found in the region. You’ll then get to visit the beautiful lakes of Laguna Honda and Ramaditas before heading to your hotel for the night.

Day 3

Waking early, you’ll depart for the first of the day’s many attractions, Piedra de arbol, an incredible tree shaped rock which has taken thousands of years to form. Next you’ll enter Eduardo Avaroa National Park where the landscape turns to vast deserts and unique landscapes. Here you’ll stop and visit the world famous Laguna Colorada, a beautiful lake with pink water and surrounded by Volcanoes. This is also the best place to view the vibrant bird-life which includes huge flocks of pink flamingos.

Next you’ll continue your drive to the peak of the National Park to the Geysers where huge surges of gas are thrust up to 200m into the air. Making your way through the Siloli Desert, you will stop at bubbling hot springs where you can swim, relax and eat lunch.

After lunch you’ll continue deeper into the park, through Valles de las Damas, before stopping at the iconic Laguna Verde where you can enjoy the spectacular lakes and take photos – keep an eye out for the resident Andean foxes and cheeky vichas.

From here you’ll leave the park and continue the long drive back to Uyuni, stopping at other notable attractions along the way.
